Summary of known hazards and risks to human health:

- May cause toxic effects if inhaled or ingested/swallowed. Contact with substance may cause severe burns to skin and eyes. Fire will produce irritating, corrosive and/or toxic gases. Vapours may cause dizziness or suffocation. Runoff from fire control or dilution water may cause pollution.
- Workers chronically exposed to the vapour have had complaints of headache, fatigue, itching of the throat, lacrimation, loss of the sense of taste, numbness of the tongue, and tremor. Occupational overexposure is relatively rare due to the liquid's low vapour pressure, and symptoms usually disappear rapidly after removal from exposure. (1)
- Assessment of preliminary results of reproductive study in rats, and feeding studies in mice and rats show possibility of birth and reproductive defects (2).

Expected effect of the final regulatory action in relation to human health:

- Several alternative products exist
- Registrants were given the option of re-formulating their products to remove banned chemical
- Chemical no longer registered for pest control use in Canada.
